United States Sixth Circuit
Roger Miller Music, Inc. v. Sony/ATV Publ'g, LLC, 05-6824/6880
In a copyright-infringement-and-ownership action against Sony over a renowned country-music singer and songwriter's songs, the court affirms a district court's rulings that: 1) plaintiffs' ownership claims were timely; 2) plaintiffs' infringement claims for Sony's use of the artists songs for a certain period were timely; and 3) Sony owns the renewal copyrights in his 1958-1963 songs. However, a ruling that Sony's statements regarding plaintiffs' ownership of the renewal copyrights in 1964 songs were judicial admissions is reversed and remanded for further proceedings.
