United States Third Circuit
Young v. Martin, 13-4057
In a suit brought by a prisoner with a long history of mental illness, alleging violations of his Eighth Amendment rights by securing him in a four-point restraint chair, naked, for fourteen hours, although he did not pose a threat to himself or others, the district court's grant of summary judgment to defendants is vacated where the court erred as a matter of law by failing: 1) to apply the Supreme Court's controlling precedent in Hope; and 2) to draw all reasonable inferences from the facts in favor of plaintiff.
