United States Supreme Court
Gamble v. US, 17–646
On an issue relating to the U.S. Constitution's Double Jeopardy Clause, upheld the dual-sovereignty doctrine. A man who was convicted by Alabama for possessing a firearm as a felon insisted that it would be double jeopardy to prosecute him for the same conduct under federal felon-in-possession law. However, the U.S. Supreme Court disagreed, declining to overrule the longstanding dual-sovereignty doctrine. Justice Alito delivered the opinion of the 7-2 Court.
