United States Supreme Court
Moore v. Texas, 18–443
Held that a man convicted of murder had shown that he had an intellectual disability and thus was ineligible for the death penalty. In reaching a contrary conclusion, the Texas state court impermissibly relied on "lay stereotypes of the intellectually disabled" -- just as it had a few years ago the first time this case came before the U.S. Supreme Court. The High Court issued a per curiam opinion here, criticizing the Texas court for not heeding its prior instructions. Justices Alito, Thomas and Gorsuch dissented.
