United States Supreme Court
Sveen v. Melin, 16-1432
Reversing and remanding a determination by the Eight Circuit that the retroactive application of a Minnesota law that automatically revoked any revocable beneficiary designation, such as the designation of a life insurance policy, upon the dissolution of a marriage, because the retroactive application of the law did not violate the Contracts Clause of the Constitution because the law does not substantially impair preexisting contractual relationships.
