Maracich v. Spears, 12-25

In an action brought by plaintiffs, South Carolina residents, against defendant attorneys for violating the federal Driver's Privacy Protection Act of 1994 by obtaining, disclosing, and using plaintiffs' personal information from motor vehicle records for bulk solicitation without their express consent, judgment of the Fourth Circuit that the use of the information satisfied the litigation exception under 18 U.S.C. section 2721(b)(4) is vacated and remanded, where an attorney's solicitation of clients is not a permissible purpose covered by the (b)(4) litigation exception.
