United States Federal Circuit
Tesco Corp. v. National Oilwell Varco, L.P., 15-1041
In an infringement suit involving a patent involving a tool used in well drilling technology, in which the parties entered into a settlement agreement resolving all outstanding issues, the district court's dismissal with prejudice pursuant to the court's inherent authority to sanction, is affirmed over the attorneys claim that despite the settlement, the harm to their reputation from the district court's opinion justifies continued jurisdiction over the appeal, where there is no remaining case or controversy to adjudicate.
