United States Federal Circuit

Noah Systems, Inc. v. Intuit Inc., 2011-1390

In a patent infringement action concerning a patent relating to an automated financial accounting system, summary judgment to the defendant is affirmed, where: 1) the specification of the patent did not disclose an algorithm for the "enabling the performance" function associated with the "access means" limitation; and 2) the district court did not err when it refused to allow expert testimony or other evidence regarding what one skilled in the art would understand from the specification before it construed the "access means" limitation as indefinite, or concluded that summary judgment of invalidity was appropriate in light of that construction.
