United States Federal Circuit

Broadcom Corp. v. Int'l Trade Comm'n, 07-1164

A determination by the International Trade Commission that certain chipsets did not infringe the claims of two of appellant's patents is affirmed in part, and vacated and remanded in part where: 1) a communications network standard did not require the presence of certain features in its handset chipsets, thus there had been no direct or induced infringement of appellant's patents; 2) an ALJ misinterpreted expert testimony regarding the nature of radio frequency transmitter and receiver chips; and 3) the ALJ's noninfringement determination concerning seven other chipsets was supported by substantial evidence.
