United States Federal Circuit
Amber-Messick v. US, 2006-5087
In an action brought by the mother of a fourteen-year old "apprentice firefighter" with a fire department following his death in a traffic accident, a judgment in favor of plaintiff finding that she could recover death benefits under the Public Safety Officers' Benefits Act is reversed where the Court of Federal Claims erred in failing to defer to an agency's interpretation of "firefighter."
