SCHAEFER FAN CO., INC. v. J&D MFG., 00-1545

When parties settle a patent dispute, the terms of the settlement agreement may afford the patent owner rights which the original patent did not, and a district court may assess damages based on profits from the entire unit instead of just the infringing part.
