United States Ninth Circuit

McNeil v. Sherwood School District 88J, 17-35500

Held that a school district did not violate a high school student's right to free speech when it expelled him for one year for making death threats to other students in his personal journal. The student (and his parents) argued that it was unconstitutional to expel him for writings he never intended anyone else to read. Affirmed a summary judgment ruling.
