United States Ninth Circuit

Quiroz-Parada v. Sessions, 13-73967

Granted an undocumented immigrant's petition for review of a decision ordering him removed from the United States. The El Salvador citizen sought asylum, citing violence that he and his family had suffered at the hands of a paramilitary group. Disagreeing with the Board of Immigration Appeals, the Ninth Circuit concluded that the long-time U.S. resident was eligible for asylum and entitled to withholding of removal. The panel also remanded to the Board for reconsideration of his claim under the Convention Against Torture.
