United States Ninth Circuit

Affirmed the dismissal of an action challenging California's 2015 amendment to its Gun-Free School Zone Act. Gun owners and firearms organizations contended that it was unconstitutional for lawmakers to prohibit licensed concealed carry weapon holders from possessing a firearm on school grounds while allowing retired peace officers to do so. However, the Ninth Circuit found that the distinction between these two groups had a rational basis and that the law did not violate the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
