Echavarria v. Filson, 15-99001

Affirmed the grant of habeas corpus relief to a defendant who was convicted of killing an FBI special agent. The defendant argued that his conviction was tainted by bias because the judge who presided over his trial had previously been criminally investigated by the very FBI agent that the defendant was accused of killing. Agreeing with the defendant, the Ninth Circuit held that the unrevealed connection between the victim and the judge violated his right to due process in this capital case.
