Estate of Diaz v. City of Anaheim, 14-55644
In a civil rights action, arising after defendant police officer shot and killed Manual Diaz, the district court's entry of judgment for defendants following a jury verdict is reversed where it was an abuse of discretion for the district court to refuse to bifurcate the liability phase of the trial from the compensatory damages phase and defense counsel introduced inflammatory evidence as to decedent's gang affiliations and drug use.
