In a habeas corpus action challenging petitioner's California death sentence for robbery and murder, on the grounds that the trial court denied on four occasions petitioner's invocation of his rights under Faretta v. California, 422 U.S. 806 (1975), the district court's grant of the pre-AEDPA petition is affirmed where the California Supreme Court's decision was contrary to federal law.
