United States Ninth Circuit

The Ray Charles Foundation v. Robinson, 13-55421

In an action by the heirs of musician Ray Charles to terminate copyright grants that Charles conferred while he was alive, the district court's dismissal for lack of jurisdiction is reversed where plaintiff, as the sole beneficiary of Charles's estate, had Article III standing to challenge the validity and effectiveness of notices of termination of copyright grants conferred by Charles to the predecessor of Warner/Chappell Music, and the suit was ripe.
