United States Ninth Circuit
US v. Bonds, 11-10669
Former professional baseball player's conviction and sentence for obstruction of justice, 18 U.S.C. section 1503, is reversed where there is insufficient evidence that his statement to the grand jury was material and violation of section 1503 is not supported by the record. Such a reversal for insufficient evidence implicated defendant's right under the Double Jeopardy Clause, and he may not be tried again on the obstruction count.
