Anderson v. City and County of San Francisco, 11-16746

Summary judgment in favor of defendant-county in a Title VII case in which plaintiff-deputies challenged a policy prohibiting male deputies from supervising female inmates in the housing units of the Sheriff’s Department's jails is: 1) reversed in part and remanded with regard to plaintiff's sex discrimination and derivative claims, where defendant was unable to bear its burden of demonstrating that there was no genuine issue of material fact as to whether it was entitled to a "bona fide occupational qualification" defense; 2) affirmed in part, with regard to the district court's award of attorney's fees as to settled claims; and 3) affirmed in part, with regard to one of the plaintiff's retaliation claims.
