United States Ninth Circuit

Hedlund v. Ryan, 09-99019

The district court's denial of a habeas corpus petition challenging petitioner's conviction and capital sentence for murder is affirmed, where the relevant state court decision underlying each of petitioner's claims regarding the use of a visible leg brace, the use of dual juries for petitioner and his codefendant, juror bias, ineffective assistance of counsel during the plea process, consideration of mitigating evidence and the use of an unconstitutional causal nexus test, and ineffective assistance of counsel during the penalty phase, was not contrary to, nor an unreasonable application of, clearly established federal law or based on an unreasonable determination of the facts before that court.
