United States Ninth Circuit
US v. Loughner, 11-10339
In an appeal from involuntary medication and extension of commitment orders brought by the person indicted for the 2011 shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and others in Tucson, judgment in one matter is affirmed and the appeals in two other matters are dismissed as moot, where: 1) the appellant was provided with the substance and procedure demanded by the Due Process Clause before the government involuntarily medicated him; and 2) the district court did not commit legal error in its commitment rulings, and its finding that there was a substantial probability that the appellant would be restored to competency in the foreseeable future was supported by the evidence and not clearly erroneous.
