United States Ninth Circuit

US v. McFall, 07-10034

Defendant's extortion conviction is reversed where the government did not prove that Defendant attempted to "obtain" the alleged victim's property within the meaning of the Hobbs Act, because decreasing a competitor's chance of winning a contract does not amount to obtaining a transferable asset for oneself.
