Alaskan Independence Party v. State of Alaska, 07-35186

In a First Amendment challenge to Alaska's mandatory direct primary ballot nomination process, grant of summary judgment for the state is affirmed where: 1) Alaska's mandatory direct primary system advances a compelling state interest in promoting elections free from fraud and corruption; and 2) Alaska's direct primary system is narrowly tailored to advance this interest.
