United States Ninth Circuit

US v. Mendez, 05-10205

In circumstances where a defendant had been pulled over by officers for failure to display a visible license plate or registration tag, a conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm is affirmed over a challenge to denial of a motion to suppress evidence where: 1) officers' questioning of defendant did not extend the duration of a lawful stop; and 2) thus, their expanded questioning need not have been supported by separate reasonable suspicion. (Superseding opinion)
