US v. PATTERSON, 99-50739

When supervised release is imposed as part of a sentence and then revoked in subsequent proceedings, the resulting confinement is "by virtue of" the original conviction, making USSG 2P1.1(a)(1) applicable to a prisoner who has escaped from supervised release.
