United States Eighth Circuit

US v. Bell, 06-2985

A conviction for being in possession of a stolen firearm is affirmed over a claim of erroneous denial of a motion to suppress where: 1) under the circumstances, officers had reasonable suspicion that defendant's vehicle might be carrying stolen weapons and an investigative stop of the vehicle was justified; 2) the method of detention was justified by officer safety concerns, defendant's furtive movements, and the nature of the suspected crime of possession of stolen handguns and assault rifles; and 3) there was probable cause for his arrest after a permissible limited search of the vehicle.
