United States Eighth Circuit
Bone Shirt v. Hazeltine, 05-4010
In a case arising from the 2001 legislative redistricting of South Dakota, the circuit court finds that the redistricting plan violated Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act by packing one district with Native Americans at the expense of another, and the district court redistricted South Dakota in a manner that assured Native Americans in the districts the opportunity to elect Indian-preferred candidates.
