United States Eighth Circuit

PAGELS v. MORRISON, 01-1843

Prison unit manager was entitled to qualified immunity on prisoner's claim that officials failed to protect him from an assault by fellow inmates, as inmate's letter to staff indicated he did not fear for his safety, and the letter failed to provide a sufficient basis to conclude manager had actual knowledge of a threat of serious harm.
