United States Seventh Circuit

Schmidt v. Foster, 17‐1727

In an en banc decision, the Seventh Circuit affirmed the denial of federal habeas relief to a state inmate who argued that he was entitled to such relief because the trial judge had conducted a highly unusual ex parte, in camera examination of him before denying him leave to present an adequate-provocation defense to charges that he murdered his wife.
