United States Seventh Circuit

US v. King, 07-2143

A conviction and sentence for stealing government property, loan fraud, and other fraud charges, arising from defendant's use of stolen social security numbers to poach Hurricane Katrina relief funds, student loan money, Pell Grant money, and credit at various banks and retailers, is affirmed over challenges regarding: 1) whether he was of "sound mind" when he pleaded guilty; 2) the district court's rejection of the plea agreement defendant reached with the government; 3) a finding that he obstructed justice by attempting to flee while on pretrial release; and 4) various sentencing-related issues.
