United States Seventh Circuit

US v. Al Shahin, 05-2573

Convictions and sentences for mail fraud stemming from a scheme to fraudulently collect insurance money are affirmed where: 1) the crime/fraud exception applied to overcome attorney-client privilege; 2) the trial court did not err in refusing to instruct the jury on certain defenses; 3) the district court did not err in denying an evidentiary hearing on improper jury statements since the comments were innocuous; and 4) the court correctly calculated the amount of loss during sentencing.
