Varner v. Budz, 05-2310

Denial of writ of habeas corpus regarding the civil commitment of a convicted sex offender is affirmed where: 1) states retain latitude in fashioning the details of their systems of civil commitment, and the state court did not transgress a clearly established rule in ordering the commitment; and 2) differing rules for the commitment of those who have been convicted of sexual offenses and those who have not does not violate the equal protection clause.
