United States Seventh Circuit
SHULA v. LAWENT, 03-3194
Defendants blatantly violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Because the court never awarded costs to the debt collectors, plaintiff was never obligated to pay these costs; defendant's letter demanding payment of these costs as a debt violated sections 1692e and 1692f(1), while failure to send a follow-up letter violated section 1692g(a).
