United States Seventh Circuit

HONAKER v. SMITH, 00-2346

Allegations that defendant fire chief intentionally caused plaintiff's house to be set on fire to force plaintiff to leave town, together with allegations that prior to the fire, defendant told plaintiff that he would "burn [him] out," are sufficient to support a cause of action for intentional infliction of emotional distress under Illinois law.
