United States Sixth Circuit
US v. Vasilakos, 05-3166, 05-3346, 05-3478
Convictions and sentence for mail fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit mail fraud are affirmed over claims that: 1) prior civil proceedings in which the defendants prevailed should have precluded their criminal prosecution; 2) the district court improperly permitted the government to use redacted excerpts of codefendants' civil trial testimony; 3) the district court abused its discretion with respect to various evidentiary rulings that precluded defendants from presenting a "good faith defense"; 4) bail restrictions impermissibly infringed on defendants' ability to contact witnesses and present a defense; 5) a postal inspector's was erroneously allowed to testify; 6) the district court erred in certain jury instruction; and 7) the sentences were unreasonable.
