United States Fifth Circuit
Arenas v. Calhoun, 18-50194
Held that a correctional officer acted lawfully when he delayed several minutes before attempting to rescue a prison inmate who was hanging himself. The officer was concerned that it might be a staged suicide to draw officers into the cell for an ambush. Affirmed summary judgment against an Eighth Amendment claim brought by the inmate's mother.
