United States Fifth Circuit

US v. Lauderdale County, Mississippi, 17-60805

Held that the U.S. Department of Justice could not proceed with its lawsuit alleging that a county's youth court judges had engaged in a pattern or practice of denying juveniles their constitutional rights. Affirmed that the judges fell outside the scope of the federal statute under which DOJ brought its suit, the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act.
