United States Fifth Circuit

PATTERSON v. DRETKE, 04-70019

Inmate was properly deemed mentally competent to be put to death. Though he is mentally ill and expresses the delusional belief that he has been granted amnesty and a permanent stay of execution, the evidence shows that he understands both the fact of his execution and the reason for it.
