United States Fourth Circuit

US v. Burfoot, 17-4266

Affirmed the conviction of a Norfolk, Virginia, city council member for wire fraud, extortion under color of official right, conspiracy to commit such offenses, and two counts of perjury. The charges stemmed from the council member's solicitation of bribes from local real estate developers. He raised various substantive and procedural challenges to his conviction, but the Fourth Circuit found no merit in them and affirmed.
