United States Fourth Circuit
US v. Steele, 17-4580
Vacated a restitution order imposed against a postal employee who had pleaded guilty to mail theft. The postal employee, who had stolen video games that a rental service shipped to customers through the mail, appealed the amount of the restitution award, $50,000. The Fourth Circuit determined that the rental service's estimate of its losses was not supported by the record, and therefore vacated the restitution order and remanded.
