United States Fourth Circuit
Patterson v. Commissioner of SSA, 15-2487
In an issue of first impression involving Social Security disability benefits claims, the district-court order affirming the Social Security Administration's (SSA) decision to deny her application for disability benefits is reversed where an Administrative Law Judge's (ALJ) failure to follow the special technique required by 20 C.F.R. section 404.1520a when evaluating a claimant's mental impairment does not automatically require remand when the error is harmless, as it is on these facts.
