United States Fourth Circuit
US v. Vaughan, 11-4863
In a conviction of a defendant for drug possession and conspiracy related offenses, district court's denial of defendant's motion to suppress evidence obtained during a traffic stop is affirmed where: 1) based on the totality of the undisputed evidence before the district court, reasonable suspicion of criminal activity existed at the moment the officer determined that defendant and his passenger's explanations of their travels conflicted; and 2) the officer was justified in briefly extending the stop to confirm or allay his suspicions of criminal activity.
