United States Third Circuit

WERWINSKI v. FORD MOTOR CO., 00-4323

Because the "amount in controversy" in complaint alleging defective transmission parts could reasonably include vehicle purchase prices as well as repair costs, denial of motion to remand based on failure to meet jurisdictional amount was appropriate; under Pennsylvania law, the economic loss doctrine can extend to transactions between manufacturer and individual consumer, making summary judgment in favor of defendant on fraud and unfair trade practice claims proper.
