In an action under 42 U.S.C. section 1983 brought against police officers for excessive force in the course of arrest, in breaking one of plaintiff's ribs and breaking his spine in two places after he had unresistingly complied with orders to lie on the ground face down with his hands behind his back, the district court's grant of summary judgment in favor of defendants is: 1) vacated in part where summary judgment dismissing the section 1983 claims against officer Watson was error; and 2) affirmed in part as to dismissal of claims against the other police officers.
