Order granting petitioner's writ of habeas corpus under 28 U.S.C. section 2254 for the state trial court’s violations of petitioner's Confrontation Clause rights is affirmed, where, at trial, the state court erred in prohibiting the petitioner from questioning a detective as to whether the police had pursued provided leads contained in an investigative report, on grounds that such cross-examination would lead to introduction of inadmissible hearsay and would confuse the jury, and this error denied petitioner evidence that was essential to his defense.
