On petition for habeas corpus brought by a prisoner convicted of first-degree murder in Massachusetts state court, the district court's denial of the petition is affirmed against challenges to the: 1) sufficiency of the evidence; 2) state court's rejection of a jury instruction as to intoxication; 3) court's determination as to the defendant's competency to stand trial; and 4) court's admission into evidence of various statements made by the defendant without holding a sua sponte hearing on their voluntariness.
