United States First Circuit
US v. De la Paz-Rentas, 08-1820
In appeals arising from convictions on firearms charges and, in one case, a drug charge, all of which stemmed from an undercover investigation into a weapons ring in Puerto Rico, defendants' convictions and sentences are affirmed over various challenges with the exception of one defendant's conviction under section 924(c)(1)(B) and its companion 30-year sentence, which are vacated as the government failed to show that the gun was carried "during and in relation to" a drug trafficking crime.
