United States First Circuit

U.S. v. Potter, 05-2676

Convictions for conspiracy to commit wire fraud and multiple counts of wire fraud in a scheme to bribe the then-speaker of the Rhode Island House of Representatives to influence state legislation in ways favorable to a gambling facility and dog track are affirmed over defendants' arguments that: 1) there was insufficient evidence; 2) jury instructions were improper; 3) the court erred in several evidentiary rulings; 4) the prosecutor engaged in misconduct; and 5) that criminal responsibility could not be imputed to the corporate defendant.
