United States First Circuit
US v. CRUZ-MERCADO, 03-1077, 03-1078
In a case involving former officials of the Puerto Rico Department of Education, defendants, who entered into cooperation agreements with the government and pled guilty in exchange for what they hoped would be shorter sentences, unsuccessfully appeal from their sentences. Given the scope of the scheme and the significant breaches in their plea agreements, the sentencing court did not abuse its discretion.
